Oils

I wish that I had discovered oil painting much sooner than I did. Painting was a mid-life crisis for me, but once I got started, I made up for lost time. I began studying at the California Art Institute in Westlake Village, CA. I studied portraiture and figure drawing and painting, working from life. It’s amazing how once you begin painting you notice color and light so much more vividly. I was hooked. Since then, I have studied with many incredible teachers over the past 26 years.
My favorite subjects are scenes depicting figures telling a story, such as a field worker picking lemons, or a mother taking a walk with her child. I always have a camera ready to capture a special moment that I can then recreate on canvas in my studio.
I was the president of the Westlake Village Art Guild in CA for five years before I moved to Reno. I feel it’s very important to enhance the vitality of the arts in our communities. I helped put on several shows a year; a Member Show, Open Juried Show and a Student Show for High School Juniors and Seniors. Our Guild would offer scholarships to award winning students who were pursuing an education in the arts in college.
Now that I am a Nevada resident, I look forward to being part of the vibrant local art scene in Reno.
