Meet The Club
Carrying On A Tradition of Art Excellence In Reno Since 1921.
We cultivate healthy interaction among our fellow artists, as well as the growth and improvement of each person as individuals. We encourage skill development in creative young people through granting yearly educational scholarships.
The Latimer Art Club
Latimer Art Club, also known as LAC, is a 501(c)(7) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the fine arts in a wide variety of mediums. The records of the Latimer Art Club provide a capsule history of Reno’s cultural community during the early twentieth century.
About Us
How the Club Was Started
One of Lorenzo Latimer’s favorite clubs was the Bohemian Club. This club owned a retreat called The Grove in Northern California and was settled near the ancient redwoods, by the Russian River. It seems those trees influenced Latimer’s painting. He celebrated the magnificent redwood forests and showcased their beauty in his work. Some of his finest paintings were of Nevada and Yosemite where he embodied the beauty of the streams, rivers, and valleys in summer or autumn days. He traveled to Lake Tahoe and eventually started teaching in Reno, NV.
Many of his students respected him and formed the Latimer Art Club. Early members of the LAC, known as “Latimers”, became a strong organization supporting the arts in Reno. We continue that legacy today.

Club Outings and Events
During meetings, attendees are treated to presentations and/or demonstrations by artists or members of the community, as well as having the chance to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow artists. Please see our archive for any past speaker information.
Other activities include a varied schedule of Plein Air paint-outs from April through October. We gather at locations throughout Reno and the Sierra and enjoy the company of other artists practicing in a variety of mediums. Paint-outs culminate with an informal critique over lunch. Artists within the community are welcome to attend.
LAC hosts two or more exhibits of members’ artwork each year. Our Annual Juried and Judged Miniature Exhibition is open to all Nevada artists over the age of eighteen.
