Pastels

I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. During school I always volunteered for art projects…..art was my favorite subject and it made me vezy happy, I guess you can say it touched my heart and soul. I didn’t have many opportunities to learn art, but in high school I took a drawing class and thoroughly enjoyed it.
As I went through adulthood, I had a strong urge to learn how to paint, I then had an opportunity to learn Tole/Decorative Painting in 1988. I enjoyed it so much, I bought a saw and cut out my own wood pieces to paint on. I learned fabric painting, and had fun making specialized shirts for my kids and friends and mysell A few years later I went to a few community colleges and took various art classes so I could learn more about color, drawing and different painting mediums. In one of my drawing classes when we went from graphite to color, I got exposed to pastels, and I fell in love with them. I still painted with acrylic, but I finally started taking a pastels class. I was using hard pastels, but when I saw a video in 2006 when PanPastels got released, I got excited and purchased the complete set. I basically taught myself how to use them, before YouTube was out. I was still using pastels and acrylic at different times, then I took classes for colored pencils and was pretty involved in that for a while, but kept getting called back to pastels. After moving to Carson City six years ago I put my time in art with my PanPastels.
I have showed my art in a couple local galleries and have won numerous awards, but I truly love creating art and the challenges it presents. I deeply enjoy painting flowers because God has graced our earth with beautiful colors and varieties which bring out feelings and emotions in our lives. I also love painting cats, dogs and birds. The love they represent to people is such a part of our lives. The joy and love of painting flowers and animals puts me in such a special place of closeness with God’s creations.
I have a wonderful and supportive husband and four wonderful adult kids, and six exciting grandsons. I live with four kitties and they have a special big place in my life.
I am grateful for my family and I’m always trying to challenge myself to learn new things that ,help my creativeness in Art.
