Watercolors and Acrylics

Watercolors and Acrylics

I’ve lived in Reno and the Northern Nevada area since 1960, coming originally from a small town in southern Washington state. Did four years of Navy just after Korea, and used G.I. Bill to go to school afterwards; first two years as a fine arts and commercial art major at U. of Washington in Seattle and then finished the B. A. requirements at UNR with a degree in Art Education.

Worked a number of years for Washoe County Schools at Billinghurst Jr. High, then made a job change to the Nevada Bureau of Mines and worked there as a graphic artist, draftsman and cartographer until retirement.

Most of my formal art background has been at UW and UNR although I think one of the most helpful with basic information was a commercial art correspondence course from Art Instruction Inc during my high school years. I used those text books for reference for years afterward. Attended several summer school sessions over the years including an intensive art program in Guadalajara, Mexico sponsored by the University of California System.

My work most recently I has been largely watercolors and acrylics due to a pretty severe allergy to oil painting materials. Style…representational landscapes. Subject matter is mostly western area scenes, from the coast to the mountains, the Great Basin to the California seashore, but enjoy occasional dabbling in western and aviation genres. I’m involved with the local art clubs (with varying degrees of participation), and have been teaching watercolor classes at OLLI senior learning through UNR’s extended studies program in Reno for some years now.
