Oils

I paint in oil, indoors and out,
still life, landscape and sometimes still life which really is not still!
Oil paint allows luscious manipulation of paint, especially when wet. Most of these paintings are in oil paints on whatever surface is available.

Art began with a paint-by-number kit in 1969. I used enough paint to cover the numbers! My painting journey began in 1995 with formal studio training, taught by Don Sahli, an American painter of Russian Impressionism. Sahli School of Art formed in 1995 and I was in the first of many class seasons.  He trained us for 3 years before offering outdoor plein air workshops in Colorado.  Color mixing and spontaneity combined with composition sketches and value judgments made under fixed light and temperatures!

I dry sketch in watercolor and water-soluble pen for my own travel logs.   I paint in water-based gouache, seldom in acrylics.  I use watercolor pencils, pastels, colored pencils, value markers, pencils (and erasers), just for the pleasure of quiet time, reflection, meditation.

Most paintings reflect my joy of solitude, others the joy of companions, quietly participating.
Sometimes finishing is fleeting,
oftentimes, time-consuming.

I hope you enjoy some of your own reflections, emotions and seasons in what you see.  Peace and joy be with you!
