This year the Latimer Art Club celebrates its 100th anniversary. To honor this important milestone, the Nevada Museum of Art is hosting a juried exhibition of present-day Latimer Art Club members. You will find the art of 20 current Latimer Art Club members on display starting July 10th to September 1st.

Latimer Art Club Yesterday and Today

Discover the origins of the Latimer Art Club, Reno’s oldest art club with Eileen Fuller, the Latimer Art Club’s current Art Show Chair, past President, and current board member. This active club supports Northern Nevada artists through exhibitions, classes, and paint-outs throughout the region. Eileen Fuller is a Reno-based landscape artist who will also offer her own artistic practice as part of the current activities of the Latimer Art Club.

Nevada Museum of Art Member's Premier: The Latimer School

Members’ Night: The Latimer School

Join friends, family and members as we celebrate the founding of the Nevada Museum of Art. Be the first to see The Latimer School: Lorenzo Latimer and the Latimer Art Club’s art during this exclusive evening premiere. Also on view are juried paintings by present-day members of the Latimer Art Club.

As a benefit of membership with the Nevada Museum of Art, enjoy live music and a drink on the open terrace of the Stacie Mathewson Sky Plaza.

In addition to this exhibit, renowned authors Jack Bacon and Ann M. Wolfe will signing their new book “The Latimer School: Lorenzo Latimer and the Latimer Art Club.” This will be open to Nevada Museum of Art Members Only.

Commemorating the history of the Latimer Art Club Essays by Ann M. Wolfe, Alfred C. Harrison, Jr. Hardcover, 375 pages, published by Jack Bacon & Company.

The Latimer School:
Lorenzo Latimer and the Latimer Art Club

In celebration of the Latimer Art Club’s 100th Anniversary and the Nevada Museum of Art’s 90th, this exhibition brings together landscape paintings by the watercolor painter Lorenzo Latimer. Alongside those, you’ll find paintings of the artists he mentored, including Mattie S. Conner, Marguerite Erwin, Dora Groesbeck, Hildegard Herz, Nettie McDonald, Minerva Pierce, Echo Mapes Robinson, Nevada Wilson, and Dolores Samuel Young. These artists joined together to formally found the Latimer Art Club in 1921.

The exhibition is co-curated by Nevada art specialist Jack Bacon and Ann M. Wolfe, Andrea and John C. Deane Family Senior Curator and Deputy Director. The exhibition will be accompanied by a major book with an introduction by Wolfe and an essay by Alfred C. Harrison, a nineteenth-century painting scholar and art historian with a special emphasis on California art.

A Closer Look: Landscapes in Nevada

Museum volunteer docents will lead you through current exhibitions, including The Latimer School: Lorenzo Latimer and the Latimer Art Clubfacilitating conversations centered around landscapes in Nevada and beyond.

Ann M. Wolfe on Art, Nature and the Founding of the Nevada Museum of Art

Join Ann M. Wolfe, Andrea and John C. Deane Family Senior Curator and Deputy Director, for a look back at the history of the Nevada Museum of Art. With a special emphasis on the organization’s early ties to the San Francisco Bay Area, the Bohemian Club, Fallen Leaf Lake in the Sierra, and the University of Nevada. Covering the roots of the Latimer Art Club from the 1910s to the critical role it played in the founding of the institution.
